Are you looking to implement and develop your clinical and leadership skills? Are you good at building relationships, working with teams, and promoting new ways of doing things? Do you want to make a difference in the provision and development of excellent clinical services for colleagues and adult service users in the community? 

You will be a leading member of the Division of Psychology & Psychological Therapies services (DPPT) and be involved in supporting key service developments across Working Age Adult community services. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Clinical Psychologist to work up to 4 days per week and provide a high-quality clinical service across the CMHTs in South Derbyshire and Derby and provide advice, consultation and supervision to our staff and multidisciplinary colleagues as well as direct clinical inputs, depending on local needs.

This post is linked to an equivalent 8b vacancy in the North of the county and there will also be links with other 8b roles in the Division for peer support, supervision and development.

We are excited to offer this 8b role which provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced Psychologist to further develop and consolidate their skills working within the specialist area of Adult Mental Health.

You will be a senior Clinical Psychologist within the service and will provide an expert clinical service through individual and group clinical work as well as indirect work to support DPPT staff and multidisciplinary colleagues working within CMHTs. You will also take a key role in service developments across working age adults community services. You will have excellent relationship-building skills and abilities to manage varied work demands, including research and audit.

 Managed within Psychology, you will be joining a committed team of highly skilled Psychologists and Psychological Therapists working within Working Age Adult community services, and a wide network of Psychologists working in other specialties across DPPT in Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

We have excellent opportunities to further develop specialist skills. We have clinicians with training and experience in a range of therapeutic models including ISTDP, MBT, ACT, CFT, Systemic therapy, CAT, EMDR. There are multiple opportunities for peer support, specialist supervision groups (eg therapy models, dissociation, EMDR, neuropsychology) and regular CPD events. We have excellent links with local Clinical Psychology Training Courses and provide regular placements and teaching.

We are transforming all our Trust’s CMHTs by providing personalised, trauma-informed care and you will join the Division of Psychology and Psychological Services who have a pivotal role in this.

You will be responsible for the provision of specialist psychological services, within Adult Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs). You will be a senior clinician in the psychological services team and a key member of multidisciplinary CMHTs for adults of working age. You will combine direct individual and group clinical work with supervision, training, consultation, research, and service evaluation/development, and will inform and enable best practice and have a lead role in transformational work.

You will use your experience of working with those with a wide range of complex mental health needs and deliver evidence-based interventions to service users with severe and enduring mental health problems.

You will be working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of team policies and procedures, and will utilise your research skills for audit, policy, service development and research within the services.

The role includes providing supervision to assistants, and psychologists during their postgraduate training and other psychologists as appropriate. You will offer and provide advice and consultation to the team managers, team members from other disciplines, other colleagues, and non-professional carers, on matters related to the psychological needs and issues relevant to the services and their users.

Training and qualifications

  • Good Honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) giving eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Postgraduate doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the BPS and giving eligibility for membership of the Health Care Professions Council HCPC
  • Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC
  • Eligibility for Chartered status with the BPS
  • Post qualification training in supervision of other psychologists
  • Able to demonstrate significant post qualification specialist training/experience
  • Specialist training across a range of relevant adult mental health presentations

  • Training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
  • Chartered status with the BPS
  • Leadership training
  • Specialist accredited post qualification training in a therapy model applicable to complex presentations

Experience

  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist including at a highly specialist level (usually for a minimum of four years, including two years at a highly specialised level)
  • Substantial experience and expertise of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment
  • Expertise and interest in a specialist area relevant to the client group
  • Leadership experience and evidence of leading in service delivery and contributing to service transformation

  • Experience of working with service users with challenging behaviour, where risk of self-harm or harm to others is a key feature
  • Experience of working with clients with dual diagnosis (including substance misuse).
  • Experience of working with people with neurodevelopmental issues
  • Experience of developing, setting up and facilitating therapeutic groups
