Job overview
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Medicines Management Assistant to join the Pharmacy Team in the South, with a base at Kingsway, to participate in the safe, effective, and responsive pharmaceutical supply services to DHCFT.
We are currently preparing to move into our exciting new mental health facility being built on site. Once all wards are configured into the new build there will be 2 female and a mother and baby ward at Radbourne unit on UHDB site. 3 acute male, a PICU and a female enhanced care ward on Kingsway site. We also have 3 older adult, 1 rehabilitation, and 2 forensic wards on Kingsway.
All duties will be carried out under the supervision of Registered Technicians, but you will be expected to work without close supervision following SOP's to ensure supply of medicine standards are met.
Ideally the applicant will be able to work Thursday and Fridays, with the addition of a half day on Monday to Wednesday to fit into our staffing group and provide a balanced service Monday–Friday.
Parking is free onsite, and reimbursed when travelling to community teams. The applicant is expected to be able to independently travel between sites.
Weekend working is voluntary when the service requires, and bank holiday working is shared across the department.
Applicants need to have achieved or be working towards NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent and have completed before the post commences.

Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role
- Maintain the supply of medicines to wards and community mental health teams to ensure a high level of patient care is maintained and pharmacy standards are adhered to.
- Take responsibility for pharmacy audits, ensuring they’re carried out 3 monthly as per pharmacy schedule.
- Creating great working relationships with wards and community teams, with clear communication skills.
- Support ward/community teams with maintenance and organisation of pharmacy record keeping and resources, such as delivery notes, information booklets, pharmacy ward memo’s and information posters.
- Maintaining up to date prescriptions for inhouse and external supplier Polarspeed, by communicating with prescribers, and reporting overstock of depots to Polarspeed as well as inhouse pharmacy.
- Answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines.
- Provide support to dispensary and distribution at Kingsway Hospital, Derby.

Stock top up and medicine management audits
Ensure medicine cupboards and clinic areas are kept tidy.
Inpatient repeat top up as per standard operating procedure to designated wards.
Check and audit out of hours crisis cupboards.
Unpack stock medicines on receipt from pharmacy into ward and team stock cupboards ensuring standard operating procedures and trust medicine code is followed and accurate completion of all documentation for traceability.
You will answer queries on the supply of stock related medicines.
Sort and organise return of medicines back to pharmacy as per department procedure.
Participate in regular dispensing sessions at Kingsway Pharmacy which will include the dispensing of inpatient, leave, discharge and outpatient medicines including compliance aids and Controlled drugs,
Carry out daily and monthly CD stock audits, issue of prescriptions and housekeeping tasks. You will also work within the stores, distribution and procurement team assembling and checking stock medicines, preparing medicines for distribution, stock take, ordering and receipt of medicines when required.

You must hold a GPhC approved level 2 Pharmacy Support worker qualification and GCSEs or equivalent in English , Maths and dual award GCSE or equivalent in science.
You must have significant experience of working in a pharmacy environment and be able to mentor and train junior healthcare professionals.
