The ANS/ LD Psychology team is proud of our commitment to good clinical practice, and is a supportive and welcoming group of professionals with diverse skills and expertise. The team sits within a strong and progressive Division of Psychology & Psychological Therapies where the valuing and sharing of specialist skills and knowledge is strongly encouraged across specialties.

There are opportunities to receive specialist supervision and training across the Service and the Division that enables active CPD and career progression with access to broader peer support for guidance and advice.

Research is encouraged to raise the profile of people with neurodevelopmental needs and the psychology team is actively looking to progress in this area to optimise service development. Attainments & Qualifications

Essential criteria

Post–graduate doctorate in Clinical / Forensic / Counselling Psychology or due to complete training in 2024
Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (or eligible if due to complete training in 2024)

Desirable criteria

Post qualification training in supervision
Post qualification in area of speciality
Skill and experience relating to the assessment and management of risk for adults with learning disabilities

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria

Very high level of communication skills in written format
Skills in providing consultation and supervision to non-psychology colleagues and teaching/training skills
Knowledge and skills in the application of forensic, counselling or clinical psychology assessments and interventions in different cultural contexts and where there are communication/language barriers

Desirable criteria

Highly specialist assessment and therapeutic skills related to complex, severe and enduring psychological problems experienced by adults with learning disabilities and/or autism with additional complex needs including communication difficulties, sensory difficulties, complex trauma histories, comorbid mental health needs and who present complex challenges to services
Skills in adapting knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies and methodologies to adults with learning disabilities and/or autism with associated complex needs

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working as a qualified (or soon to be) clinical / forensic / counselling psychologist in a relevant clinical speciality.
Experience in working with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, their families/carers in community settings
Experience of working with multidisciplinary staff teams and interagency working to support the delivery of therapeutic care
Experience of providing teaching, training and supervision

Desirable criteria

Experience of specialist assessments for learning disabilities for psychological needs
Experience of working with clients with complex mental health problems
Experience of working with clients who present challenges to services, where risks of self- harm or harm to others is a key feature

Essential criteria

Possess an enthusiasm for psychology in relation to adults with learning disabilities and including comorbid mental health problems and/or complex needs

Desirable criteria

Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post

Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia: a progressive and complex condition that can be devastating for the whole family. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible, for as long as possible.

Purpose of the job/about the role

Dementia UK has entered into an exciting three-year corporate partnership with a national partner. As a key component of this initiative, we will establish face-to-face Admiral Nurse clinics across the UK. This new team will bring Admiral Nursing to high street locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

As part of the national Clinics Programme Team, you will provide in-person biopsychosocial support and advice, sharing your specialist dementia nursing expertise to help families manage the complexities of the condition. Your focus will be on supporting family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist dementia guidance in areas of the UK where Admiral Nurse services are currently unavailable, bringing a much-needed service directly to local communities. Throughout your work, you will consistently promote Admiral Nursing and a family-centred approach to dementia care.

You will receive full support with your continuous professional development from the Admiral Nurse Academy.

As this unique nursing role offers you the opportunity to travel across the country, and will include overnight stays, flexibility is essential. When not delivering face-to-face clinics, you will provide support on our Helpline, working from home.

Admiral Nurse – Delivered Services

Join our Delivered Services team as an Admiral Nurse and bring your specialist dementia nursing expertise to support family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist advice. You’ll be a key member of our team, providing biopsychosocial support through our National Dementia Helpline and Virtual Clinic appointments.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support other clinical projects across the charity, benefit from monthly clinical supervision, and participate in a range of learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

As an Admiral Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing nursing support and expertise, offering practical guidance to colleagues, the general public, those with dementia, and others in supporting family and relationship-centered approaches to dementia care. You’ll also lead and coordinate shifts as required, providing clinical supervision to others and assist with the development, evaluation, audit of the service, carer and supporters in different settings.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need to be an active Registered Nurse on the NMC register with a post-registration qualification or training in dementia care or a relevant subject. You will have significant experience of practicing as an Admiral Nurse or dementia specialist nurse and previously worked with people who have dementia and their family, carer and supporters in different settings.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of providing high standards of clinical leadership and specialist nursing support. You should be adept at providing clinical advice, clinical supervision, and advocating for family carers.
