Estates Operations Manager (Building/Electrical)

Important - This role line manages the Estates Operations Officer (Building) role but the post holder is not expected to be a building expert themselves.

We are looking for an Estates Operations Manager (Building/Electrical) to join the Derbyshire Support and Facilities Services Ltd estates team.  The role is a senior management role within estates and it is responsible for the safe and compliant management of building and electrical services provided to Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and external clients. You will need to demonstrate strong team working skills; have extensive experience of working in an Estates/FM environment (ideally in the Public Sector) and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

This post will play a key role in meeting the estates key performance indicators and achieving the departments cost improvement plans.  The successful applicant will manage all technical aspects of the electrical and building functions within estates.

The role also requires the post-holder to take part in any future estates on-call manager rota, for which additional payments will be made.

Qualifications and Training

  • Master’s Degree in a Building Services or Construction discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • IOSH.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

  • NEBOSH.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institute such as IHEEM, CIBSE, RIBA, IWFM, IEE etc.
  • In date training for Responsible Person or Authorised Person roles.

Experience

  • Significant technical management experience within an acute NHS trust or similar complex organisation such as the MOD.
  • Experience of managing a team of engineering managers.
  • Evidence of managing significant change within an NHS estates engineering environment (or equivalent complex organisation such as the MOD).
  • Evidence of setting up electronic reporting systems and processes to simplify the process of providing assurance to Safety Group meetings.
  • Experience of managing a wide range of estates issues around procurement, contractors, planning, quality standards, governance and H&S matters.
  • Proven track record of managing risk and prioritising limited funding accordingly.
  • Proven experience in being accountable for managing budgets.
  • Significant experience in formulating department training & development plans and policies.
  • Previously appointed and has already acted as an Authorised Person for multiple electrical disciplines.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Able to apply highly specialist technical knowledge to make improvements to the estates department and mentor team members as required.
  • Good knowledge of CAFM systems (MICAD) and able to analyse complex data and make informed decisions from it.
  • Fully conversant with statutory requirements that apply within an estates department and able to reference where to find said information.
  • Demonstrable project management skills, particularly focussed on the delivery of highly complex estates projects.
  • Excellent IT skills, able to create complex Excel, Word, Powerpoint and AutoCAD documents and produce quality reports as required.

  • A recognised computer skills course.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems.
