Estates Stores Assistant

Job overview

DSFS requires a highly motivated Estates Stores Assistant who will be based within the estates department at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.  The role will work within the estates workshop as part of a team of circa 35 full time staff responsible for carrying out all reactive and planned maintenance safely and in line with the Key Performance Indicators agreed with the Trust.  The post-holder will spend the majority of their week managing the estates stores, ensuring that all aspects of the stores are properly run and managed in line with Standing Financial Instructions.

The role will require occasional travel to our customers based outside of Chesterfield Royal Hospital, such as the community clinics that we manage for Royal Primary Care.

Main duties of the job

To control and maintain stock quantities and rotation (where required) including adhering to DSFS Standing Financial Instructions when purchasing stock.
To check all goods are in good order and in date, if items are not then investigate why and resolve the issue.
To be able to (after training) use IT based systems and equipment to deliver and issue stock.
To be responsible for ordering within the department, both in terms of stores items and placing orders for work on behalf of the Estates Management Team.
To be responsible for receiving/checking and receipting of goods delivered to the Estates Department.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ3 or equivalent experience within stores.
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to use computer systems effectively.
  • Previous experience of working within a construction industry stores environment
  • Previous experience of working within a construction industry stores environment
  • Experience of carrying out stores stocktakes
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of sign writing packages.
  • Experience of raising purchase orders to pay for quoted works or utility bills etc.
  • Previous experience of using cloud-based finance and ordering.
  • Experience of obtaining best value for money with regards to stores orders.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to quickly learn new skills when taught.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Able to setup and run administration systems around estates, such as key ordering, signage printing etc.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of doing ladder inspections.
  • Knowledge of H&S and COSHH regulations applicable to stores management.
