DSFS Ltd are looking to recruit the right candidate into the role of Mechanical Multi-skilled craftsperson on a 37.5 hour per week contract, to work within the Estates department at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital and our Royal Primary Care (RPC) sites. 

The duties include conducting a wide variety of Mechanical tasks throughout the Hospital. You will be working on water systems, ventilation systems, steam systems, heating and cooling plant, and other mechanical equipment at the Trust. The working hours are Monday - Friday 08:00-16:00

Main duties of the job

To maintain the buildings and associated equipment at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and our RPC properties in an efficient, economic and safe manner in accordance with statutory, Health and Safety, DSFS and Trust standards

Work alongside maintenance management to ensure Trust-wide estates priorities are met with specific responsibility for managing and prioritising individual workload.

Carry out statutory Scheduled maintenance on various items of plant.

Complete jobs in a professional manner being courteous, helpful and understanding to all customers, i.e. patients, visitors and staff.

Work flexibly with start, end of shifts and meal break times to allow Estates service provision for emergency work and difficult to access areas.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • City and Guilds (NVQ 3) in mechanical engineering or related trade
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship, with a minimum of two years’ experience
  • *Current full driving licence and own transport
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to GSCE Level 2 standard (or equivalent) in English, Maths
  • Qualification in safe working on water systems
  • Basic electrical safety

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate previous working in a customer orientated environment.
  • Demonstrate previous working in a team as team member
  • Demonstrate previous experience of working in an engineering /commercial/ industrial environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of the prevention of legionellosis and water regulations

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to work alone or with colleagues
  • • Ability to meet deadlines
  • • Demonstrate the ability to fill in forms correctly and transfer written information
  • • Demonstrate the ability to solve complex maintenance problems alone
  • • Ability to communicate with customers in a polite and professional manner
  • • Detailed understanding of Health & Safety Regulations
  • • Use of hands tools and test equipment
  • • Able to read and work from drawings
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of building management systems
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of working on ventilation and heating systems
