Job overview

DSFS Ltd are looking to recruit into the role of Patient Services Assistant Supervisor, reporting to the Patient Catering Manager, the post holder is responsible for helping to ensure that the organisation meets its statutory and contractual obligations regarding patient catering services.

The post holder will have the day to day operational responsibility of supervising the patient catering and domestic service in their area ensuring the delivery of a high quality, efficient, cost effective service which remains consistent with end user needs.

They will co-ordinate, motivate and communicate with their staff and sometimes with stakeholders.

They must be capable of working on their own initiative and have a high level practical and theoretical knowledge of the National Cleaning Standards and/ or Food Hygiene Standards. 

Supervisory ability is necessary to examine and resolve a range of ad hoc daily problems. They will be the direct link to staff, visitors and patients and must be flexible to the needs of the service.

The shift patterns will be a mix of 06:30 – 14:30 , 11:30-19:30 or 12:30 – 20:30.

Main duties of the job

 Ensure that quality, health, safety and hygiene standards are maintained in accordance with infection prevention and control regulations and Food Standards, including undertaking regular cleaning audits; instigating corrective measures where necessary and recommending changes / improvements where appropriate.

Comply with all relevant Department of Health, NHS policies, procedures and training on infection prevention and control and any other related legislation as appropriate and ensure that the required Infection Prevention Control guidance and Food Hygiene is adhered to by all PSA staff

Actively supervise the day-to-day domestic service or catering service and be responsible for managing any operational related issues that may occur, whilst also ensuring that all designated areas including clinical areas at various sites are cleaned regularly to NHSI Cleaning Standards.

Line manage and motivate PSA staff to ensure that quality standards and Health, Safety and hygiene standards are maintained for their sites.

Order, receive and control usage of all materials required, including raising orders via the appropriate software systems.

Work evenings/weekends to support the PSA service and domestic staff on duty when required.

Ensure that all shifts are staffed as appropriate and be available to cover any shift where no domestic staff are available.

Carry out and implement risk assessments with support is needed to ensure that safe working practices are adhered to.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
  • • Basic food hygiene qualification
  • • NVQ level 3 in relevant subject
  • • Must be willing to attain ILM qualification
Desirable criteria
  • • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate
  • • ILM or equivalent attained
  • • BTEC Infection Control Intermediate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Previous supervisory experience in a similar environment
  • • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • • Ability to lead a team
  • • Able to work under pressure and on own initiative
  • • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety/Food Safety
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of working with domestic and catering teams within an acute hospital
