Job overview
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Estates Mechanical Technician to join us at Derbyshire Healthcare within our new hospital (The Derwent Unit), as part of our new north Estates team.
You will be required to carry out statutory maintenance and minor works in respect of all aspects of mechanical/plumbing maintenance.
The role involves being the Trust specialist in maintaining, servicing and verifying installations of gas fired appliances within Trust premises around the north Derbyshire area, to ensure Gas Safe legal and statutory obligations are met. A full UK driving licence will therefore be required.
Accurate recording and certification of all servicing of gas fired appliances (Domestic and Commercial) to regulatory requirements is essential along with maintaining accurate Estates computer and written records for any other activities carried out.
Main duties of the job
A full list of the duties can be found in the attached job description and include:
Undertaking planned and reactive maintenance to water systems in accordance with L8, HTM and other approved standards.
Good communication skills to ensure that technical detail is effectively communicated to non-technical audiences.
To undertake planned and reactive maintenance on all aspects of mechanical plumbing.
To carry out gas servicing/maintenance/ installation and commissioning works in accordance with the Gas Safe requirements.
Responsibility for completing works allocated, including organising and planning the works, ordering materials and any specialist PPE. This will include Safe shutdowns of gas and water systems whilst essential maintenance works are carried out.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Must hold a mechanical/plumbing certificate to a minimum of C&G Level 3 or equivalent qualification
- Must be certified to maintain and install domestic, commercial and catering gas appliances to include the following elements: Domestic CCN1 CEN1, WAT1, CKR1, CPA1 Commercial COCN1 CIGA1, ICPN1, TPCP1, TPCP1A Installation/service domestic unvented Hot Water Systems
Desirable criteria
- Recognised Legionella awareness qualification.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Have the ability to carry out problem solving/fault finding on all aspects of mechanical/plumbing.
- Will require good communication skills to ensure that technical detail is effectively communicated to non-technical audiences.
- Have the ability to work autonomously, be well-organised, with high attention to detail and able to prioritise their own workload.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Will need to hold knowledge and have experience of relevant gas appliances
- Hold experience of managing workloads, prioritizing them as required
- Understanding of water systems to L8/HTM 04-01.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience within healthcare environment
- Have experience of using handheld CAFM technology.
