Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Hub Occupational Therapy Team at the Hartington Unit initially and move with the team into the new unit called the Derwent Unit. This is a full time substantive post. Our services are a multi-disciplinary team, providing person-centred holistic care to patients with a wide variety of mental health conditions.

As a Band 6 clinician you are required to hold a clinical caseload, along with line management and support for junior staff.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist in the team, you will support patients who would benefit from occupational therapy intervention.

  • You will play a key role in delivering holistic, person-centred assessments and therapeutic interventions.
  • This will include offering clinical advice on the assessment and intervention of clients' occupational and functional needs.
  • You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team. 
  • You will embrace the delivery of best practice guidelines for Mental Health and Occupational Therapy.
  • You will need to be a dynamic clinician with good interpersonal skills to enable engagement of service users and their families or carers.
  • You will be able to make complex decisions, formulate detailed assessments and person-centred care plans to assist treatment during inpatient admissions. 
  • Supporting students during their placement.
  • Supervision of junior staff including Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants. 
  • Developing and maintaining a high level of activity programmes for the ward.
  • Professional development, learning, supervision, wider support and training is provided.
