Job overview

This post represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced and compassionate support worker, to join the oncology prehabilitation and therapy team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as a Therapy Assistant. The team provides interventions designed to optimise people prior to a range of treatments for cancer including surgery, radiotherapy and systemic anticancer therapy (SACT), by combining physical, nutritional and psychological approaches.

Main duties of the job

  • The Therapy Assistant role will support the delivery of oncology prehabilitation and therapy services across defined cancer pathways at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
  • The post-holder will be expected to support the delivery of group exercise classes, individual treatments and virtual events including the set-up of each intervention
  • The post-holder will support the clinical and admin teams in the registering and booking of patients into appropriate classes.
  • The post holder will support the therapy team in liaising with other services including cancer multidisciplinary teams, the Macmillan Information and Support Centre and external health and wellbeing services.
  • The post holder will have a passion for exercise and exercise benefits, they will motivate others to adopt healthy behaviour changes and demonstrate a compassionate approach to healthcare.

The provisional working pattern for this role will  be:

Monday: 11:00 - 16:30

Tuesday: 09:30 - 14:00

Wednesday: 09:30 - 14:00

Thursday:  - non working day

Friday: 11:00- 16:30

However, this may change due to the needs of our newly developing service

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE Grades A-C or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ/QCF or equivalent level 2 in a health related subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people & team work
  • Evidence of working flexibly & undertaking a variety of tasks
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of healthcare settings
  • Experience of working with people affected by cancer

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of disability / illness and the impact this has on an individual
  • Excellent time-management and organisation skills
  • IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • An interest in the care of people affected by cancer
  • Willingness to acquire new skills
