Job overview

JOB OVERVIEW

We are currently looking to recruit an HCPC registered Radiographer to work within our dynamic Breast Imaging Team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. We welcome applications from Qualified Mammographers or those looking to explore career opportunities in this growing Imaging Speciality.

We are a close-knit group of dedicated, forward-thinking healthcare professionals, committed to providing a first-class breast service for our patients across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire.

Our Mammographers are key members of our multi-disciplinary workforce, operating alongside an experienced team of Consultants, Clinical Imaging Specialists, Advanced Practitioners & Assistant Practitioners. We offer a wide range of opportunities to develop new skills and to participate in all aspects of screening, triple assessment, family history and breast cancer follow-up. As a Band 6 Mammographer we would support you to undertake leadership projects and responsibilities in line with the trust’s leadership framework, ‘Leading the Chesterfield Way’.

For those radiographers who have not yet qualified as Mammographers, you will be supported through a comprehensive, University Accredited training package which will develop your practical diagnostic skills whilst also challenging your understanding of Breast Imaging Practice, at a Post-Graduate Level.

This role currently benefits from a recruitment & retention payment which is under review.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied role working across our four clinical sites: two recently purchased mobile screening units which rotate through twelve picturesque sites across The Peak District and North Derbyshire; our satellite screening site in the centre of Chesterfield, and within the assessment and symptomatic clinics based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. You will have the chance to work with our 4 newly installed Hologic mammography units which includes Tomosynthesis-guided biopsy and Contrast Enhanced Mammography .  Our department undertakes approximately 20,000 examinations a year between screening and symptomatic services, and we are actively looking at new ways to develop and improve the service for both staff and patients.

Chesterfield Royal is a friendly Hospital with a real community feel and we try our best to make sure that everyone feels welcomed and valued.  The team in the breast screening department are friendly and supportive and as a Trust, we are keen to develop our own people. We can therefore provide opportunities in this role to be able to broaden your knowledge, learn new skills & take on areas of advanced practice in the future.

We are looking to recruit a female Mammographer, which is a genuine occupational qualification and is exempt under Section 7(2)(e) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975. You will need a full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to our various mobile screening sites.

Working for our organisation

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful foundation trust with a strong commitment to delivering the highest standards of clinical quality, patient care and staff experience.  The Trust’s ‘Together as One’ Strategy describes our organisational values and a pledge to support our people through compassionate and inclusive leadership.

The Health and Wellbeing of our staff is at the heart of what we do, so we offer a variety of health and wellbeing initiatives to all members of our team. We appreciate that our team members have a life beyond the realms of work hence why we welcome flexible ways of working for all, including but not limited to an extended working day.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is North Derbyshire's only acute District General Hospital, with 24-hour Emergency Department services; we're responsible for providing care and treatment to more than 400,000 people who live in our communities.

We are modern, well-resourced and in commuting distance of Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham and close to the Peak District. The Care Quality Commission has rated the Trust as ‘Good’. Our vision is to provide exceptional patient care provided by exceptional people.  We work closely with our partners across health and care as part of the Joined-Up Care Derbyshire Integrated Care System. “Follow us on Facebook and on Twitter: @hrcrhft @WellbeingCRH @royalhospital”

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

They will work within both screening and symptomatic environments providing a consistently high standard of Radiography to aid the clinicians in accurate diagnosis. The post holder will be expected to participate in the Quality Assurance Programme and take responsibility in personal development, audit and maintaining a personal profile.  They should be aware of all current legislation, policies and procedures, promoting clinical governance through the delivery of evidence-based practice.

Over the course of the next year, we will continue to develop our Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography capabilities and looking at innovative ways to integrate Artificial Intelligence into clinical practice. As a service we are dedicated to tackling health inequalities within our local communities, so we encourage applications from those with interest or experience in Health Promotion and Patient and Public Engagement.
