Job overview

The post-holder is accountable for providing motivational clinical leadership to the ward, ensuring exceptional quality standards of safe care are delivered.

The Ward Leader is expected to promote consistent, safe, effective, well led and responsive quality care and working practices in the department, ensuring that staff receive the appropriate leadership, support, appraisal and continued professional development.

The Ward Leader will have responsibility for ensuring that patients are involved in decisions around their care, using evidence that patient/carers feedback to implement improvements that have an effect on their care.

The Ward Leader will be responsible for the delivery and performance of all nursing and nursing support staff working on the ward, ensuring compliance with standards of care and treatment. 

The Ward Leader will be responsible for managing the ward/department, ensuring safe staffing to deliver effective care, while ensuring best use of available resources in line with budget.

The Ward Leader will be responsible for ensuring any clinical incidents in the area are appropriately investigated, timely actions are progressed, and improvement recommendations are implemented.

Your visible leadership will enhance the quality and experience of patient care and ensure the improvement and sustainability of care quality indicators for the ward.

 The post holder will be rostered to work a minimum of one clinical shift per week on the ward.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • • RN with relevant post qualification experience and a proven leadership record • Diploma /Degree or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Management/Leadership qualification • Post registration speciality modules • Chemotherapy trained. • Further studies in Haematology/Diabetes

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive experience in a senior clinical level in a similar environment (Previous Experience at Band 6 level) • Evidence of significant achievements in previous roles • Teaching experience
