Job overview

As part of our ongoing development, our team is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced full-time Band 6 Children’s Occupational therapist to join our enthusiastic and productive team, offering a high-quality service across North Derbyshire.

Main duties of the job

As a therapist working in a community setting  you will hold a caseload across our geographical area,  supported by a band 7 therapist.    Your role will be to evaluate and support the functional independence of children in a variety of settings. We have excellent links with other teams in Specialist Children’s Services, Education and Social Care and value working collaboratively with others to meet the needs of children and families.   Your clinical duties will include devising programmes and setting goals to develop skills, assessment and provision of specialist equipment including seating and  coaching and close liaison with parents, carers and staff in educational settings.   You will also be expected to contribute and support  ongoing programmes of service developments and improvement.

You must be able think creatively, work flexibly and independently as well as being a strong team player with excellent communication skills.

You will work as part of a supportive and friendly team based in The Den, our purpose built centre for Children’s Services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.  Our service supports children and Young people from 0 -19 who have a functional difficulties associated with a physical disability or difficulty.   We have a strong team identity and are working together to realise our vision of providing a sustainable, innovative, high quality service across North Derbyshire.   We are committed to support the professional development of those in our team, helping build skills and levels of responsibility.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • BSc/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • • HCPC registered
Desirable criteria
  • • RCOT Membership
  • • Membership of RCOT SS – Children Young People and Families

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Specialist knowledge of paediatric conditions and their impact on the child’s presentation and functional needs
  • • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and how to apply this
Desirable criteria
  • • Good working knowledge of 24-hour postural care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Knowledge of assessing need of children and young people and devising appropriate treatment plans, including the provision of specialist equipment
  • • Experience of managing a paediatric caseload, including some children with complex needs.
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of working as part of a team to assist the development of service delivery
  • • Knowledge of working in community & out-patient settings
