Job overview

This is an amazing opportunity to take advantage of an exciting post of Consultant Paediatrician at Queens Hospital, Burton on Trent.

As well as providing a high-quality paediatric service, you will work together with senior colleagues in shaping the future of paediatric services. You will have shared responsibility for the operational performance, clinical quality, and resource management of the service.

Main duties of the job

The role on offer is for an 8 PA contract with potential scope for further PA's in the future subject to job planning. It will include 1:7.5 on-call commitment for general paediatrics and the neonatal unit including weekends for providing an out-of-hours emergency service, on a shared basis with other Consultants within the Department for which an on-call availability supplement is payable.

You will be responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan.

It is essential for applicants for substantive Consultant posts to be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of their CCT date at the interview date

  •  Ability to offer expert opinion & take full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients across the wide  spectrum of paediatric disorders.
  •        Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduate
  •       Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees
  •       Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Possession of MRCPCH Postgraduate Qualification or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of application
  • GMC Specialist Registration in Paediatrics OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees
Desirable criteria
  • Specific teaching qualification

Audit and Research Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of & commitment to clinical audit

Communication
