Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a flexible and motivated individual to join our Outpatient Administration Team at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

The main base for this post will be Queens Hospital Burton, but you must be flexible to work across sites if necessary.

Monday to Thursday 0830 - 1700 (1 hour lunch break), Friday 0830 - 1630 (half an hour lunch break)

This post involves dealing with enquires from Clinicians, patients and other departments in order to provide an effective appointment and Reception Service to the Trust.

You will operate as part of the Trust’s Patient Access Team that has the responsibility for the delivery of high quality and responsive outpatient, health records and referral-to treatment education and validation services.

This brings huge benefits in terms of shared learning to improve our services for patients and superb opportunities for staff personal and professional development and career advancement. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide a service to all Trust-wide clinics and day case booking Services. An up to date knowledge and expertise of all clinics and booking rules will be needed to enable the post holder to handle all appointments, problems, and related queries. This is a totally, multi-skilled role: the post holder will need a working knowledge of all clinic templates/protocols in addition to any specific standards for each clinic/specialty, although training and written protocols will be provided.

The role will range from recording receipt of referral letters, searching patient details on the patient master index or registering new patients as appropriate, handling GP and patient queries for all clinics to managing the e-Referral Service.
