Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic practitioner with a good knowledge base of safeguarding children, young people, adults and public protection. Experience of, and a genuine passion for improving quality, change management and supporting all staff to develop their knowledge and confidence in safeguarding is essential. This post offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within the prehospital emergency care environment, alongside supporting the other services within the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust (WAST). You will need to be an experienced nurse/paramedic, or equivalent registrant, who can demonstrate good communication skills at all levels and be confident to deliver training to varying staff groups across Wales in organisational and multi-agency settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the WAST Safeguarding Team, ensuring people are protected from abuse and neglect. They will work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Safeguarding and Senior Safeguarding Specialists to ensure the Organisation discharges its statutory duties, acting as a lead specialist for advice and leadership for safeguarding.

The post holder will deputise for the Senior Safeguarding Specialists when necessary, undertaking any responsibilities, as delegated, and leading portfolios of work.

The post holder will ensure effective leadership and act as a specialist resource in the prevention, identification, assessment and management of children and adults at risk, promoting collaborative working internally and across partner agencies.

Ensure all health staff have the competences to recognise maltreatment and abuse and are confident to act upon any concerns they may have in relation to safeguarding. This includes delivering safeguarding training for all staff across all grades and disciplines.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • Registered professional in Health or Social Care with current HCPC / NMC registration
  • Additional specialist knowledge of Safeguarding Adults and Children to Masters Level, achieved through a relevant professional qualification of equivalent demonstrable specialist safeguarding experience in a similar role or setting.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Understanding of legislative framework linked to safeguarding children and adults at risk.
