Urology Nurse Specialist Band 7, 22.5 hours per week permanent
This post is to complement the existing nurse specialists in Urology. It will involve largely dealing with patients with urological cancer and providing support and information to patients and their families across North Cumbria will involve cross site commitments in Workington and Whitehaven to support the single nurse specialist over there. The intention is also to have a component of the job that will involve benign disease and the intention is that the individual will be involved in the development of ESWL and potentially lead on the provision of PTNS for overactive bladder in the Trust as a new service.
Main duties of the job
• Ensure a high standard of care for all patients with a diagnosis of urological cancer, providing a high standard of support for the patient and their family / carers, both emotionally and practically, before, during and after treatment.
• Put quality at the heart of practice, delivering evidence based, individualised and personalised care through holistic needs assessment, planning and evaluation of care and all care interventions.
• Demonstrate high level clinical, technical and research skills, actively integrating theory and practice.
• Act as key worker for a clinical caseload, working to coordinate care and provide easy access for ongoing support for patients..
• Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across service boundaries.
• Develop pathways of care for patients throughout the patient journey, ensuring full involvement of patients, their relatives and carers throughout.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First degree in nursing or equivalent, with current registration.
- Teaching certificate or equivalent.
- Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.

- Urology / oncology nursing certificate or equivalent.
- Relevant Masters degree or equivalent

- Band 6 experience ,working in a in / outpatient environment that cares for patients with urological cancer.
- Management of catheters.
- Some experience in intravesical bladder instillation.
