Apprentice Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Craftsperson

The Estates team at the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven are looking for a highly motivated, reliable and flexible Apprentice Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Craftsperson's to work with members of the Estates Team delivering key objectives to meet both departmental and Trust requirements.

Under supervision the candidates will undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvement works and capital work across the Trust as directed, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.

The candidates will also be required to complete an NVQ level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician qualification including logbook providing evidence of completed work to required standards at Lakes College, Workington.

The role involves working 08:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday at the West Cumberland Hospital with time being provided to attend Lakes College when required.

The candidates will be working under instruction fault finding and maintaining on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment including plumbing and sanitary systems, water systems, air handling and ventilation plant, building management systems and automation, compressor and medical gas systems, power distribution, lighting, fire detection systems, building control & automation, lifts, standby generator plant, security access control systems, CCTV control systems, motors, pumps, compressors, catering equipment, street lighting, nurse call systems & data / telecommunications systems.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
