Job overview

Band 5 Paediatric Staff nurse 36 hours per week

Children’s Nurse (Band 5) rotational post, between Children and Young People's Ward and Accident and Emergency, up to 36 hours fixed term for up to 12 months.

This vacancy offers the opportunity to be part of a growing, vibrant team, providing effective health care to the people of north Cumbria and working to bring about dynamic change in the way patients requiring health care are managed in north Cumbria.

A&E and Children and Young people’s ward at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, we are seeking to recruit a Band 5 staff nurse. The successful applicant will also be part of the new developments to provide safe and sustainable paediatric care within the emergency department. It will incorporate a rotation between A&E and the Children and Young People’s Ward.

You will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care, providing the prescribed nursing care without supervision. You will also contribute to the development and evaluation of nursing practice in the unit.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurses (Child) or Registered Sick Children's Nurses or equivalent, with relevant paediatric nursing experience.

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 5 nurse to work a rotational post between paediatric A&E and our acute paediatric admissions unit. The paediatric A&E is co-located to A&E and has its own designated 3 bedded area. Our paediatric ward is a 14 bedded unit that accepts emergency and routine cases for children aged 0-16 years. The service provides a 24 hour service for emergency admissions via A&E, GP’s and the paediatric community team catering for medical, surgical, trauma, ophthalmology, dental and children presenting with child protection or mental health needs.

If successful you will be joining a growing team who are developing the delivery of paediatric services within A&E. Ideally the candidate will have experience in caring for children in an acute paediatric setting, but this is not essential. Our team will support and encourage you to develop clinically with the expectation of providing a high standard of care to children and their families. The post will include duties such as assessing, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for children and their families. Working within the multi-disciplinary team you will need to have excellent organisational and communication skills. We are looking for someone who can adapt and communicate effectively in challenging and rapidly changing situations.
