Medical Education Coordinator Band 4 - 37.5hrs - WCH 

The medical education team is responsible for the provision of undergraduate and post graduate education within the NCIC trust on behalf of Health Education England North East, Foundation and Specialty Schools, Newcastle University Medical School and UCLan in line with the trusts LDA’s and SLA’s.

The medical education department covers the entire Trust and we have 2 different physical bases-one at Carlisle and one at West Cumberland Hospital. This post will be based at WCH primarily but there may be occasions when  travel is required. Flexible working and working from home are options. 

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of the post is to provide support to the Medical Education Team to develop all educational opportunities/activities in Medical Education. To co-ordinate Medical Education, including learning provision for students, trainee doctors and trainers (Clinical and Educational Supervisors) in all specialties across the Trust. This includes all aspects of administration including induction co-ordination, timetabling, room bookings, record keeping and general office management. A different working pattern may be required at peak times.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSEs Grade A to C or equivalent including English Language and Maths
  • Diploma/NVQ level III in business administration, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
  • RSA III or equivalent word processing qualification;
  • ECDL/Advanced ECDL or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the full range of routine and non-routine administrative and organisation policies and procedures, acquired through training and relevant experience
  • Previous experience of undertaking administrative tasks.
  • Experience of word processing.
  • Experience of working with Medical Staff.
  • Knowledge of Medical Education.
  • Microsoft office package including Excel spreadsheets.
Desirable criteria
  • Minute taking/committee servicing.
  • Project co-ordination i.e. event management
  • Experience within NHS, Medical or other relevant education environments.
  • Knowledge of Medical Staff Structures
