Applications are invited for a full time, permanent, Cross Bay Ultrasound Service Manager post.

The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational
management and future development of Ultrasound services within the
Core Clinical Services Care Group, including the delivery of
Trust and national performance targets.  

This will cover staff and services at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital.

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and hardworking individual, with recent experience in leadership and management in a line manager role and a keen interest in our Ultrasound Service to lead our teams as the Service Manager. 

We are looking for applicants to have an interest in all aspects of obstetric and non-obstetric ultrasound with an ability to develop staff skills and develop services in line with new technology.  To  liaise with other departments/wards within the hospital and various external sources in order to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians. To effectively liaise with all disciplines of staff within the Radiology department giving support and advice where necessary. To take responsibility for Governance issues within Ultrasound and report clinical and non-clinical incidents in line with Trust and departmental risk management policies.

As the Service Manager for the Ultrasound service, the post-holder will work closely with the Departmental and Care Group Management team in developing an efficient and responsive service. In conjunction with the Heads of Department, Imaging Services Manager and Clinical Lead develop a strategy for the continuing delivery of an effective Ultrasound across all sites of the trust, managing a range of Sonographers, students and assistant staff in both the delivery of the service and their individual development needs.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current leadership and management experience in a clinical service.
  • Recent line management responsibility
  • Degree in clinical specialty or equivalent experience
  • Postgraduate management/leadership qualification or willingness to undertake a postgraduate certificate in management/leadership
Desirable criteria
  • Member of Professional registered body
  • Attendance at the NHS Leading Empowered Organisations course or equivalent course(s)
