Job overview

An opportunity has for  arisen for Clinical Support Workers to join the team on the Acute Surgical Unit (ASU) at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

 ASU is an 18 bedded inpatient unit & Surgical Emergency Ambulatory Care (SEAC) area with 20 chairs.  

 We are a very friendly team, who pride ourselves on giving the best care to our patients.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals  with previous care experience and flexibility to work day and night shifts.

You will receive structured appraisal, support and training.

 

Main duties of the job

Work in support of and under the direction of a Registered Nurse(RN) providing nursing care and assistance to patients  within defined parameters specified by the registered nurse.

Direct patient care.  Washing and dressing patients, mouth care,  assisting with diet and fluids. Helping with toilet needs and mobility and prevention of pressure ulcers. 

Maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Giving patients high quality care and attention and ensuring patient safety.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general education
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 in care related area
  • Completed Trust Support Worker Programme

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with the general public
Desirable criteria
  • Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good basic hygiene skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative or with minimal supervision
