Job overview

This is a Cross Bay role therefore applicants can work at their chosen site with  twice monthly visits to the other UHMB sites.

UHMB Pharmacy are a pro-active service looking for an experienced, highly skilled, self-motivated individual with the ability to manage, plan and coordinate activities for themselves and a small team of like-minded colleagues.

Applicants must have relevant computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft word, skills for dispensing and record keeping as well as  accuracy and analytical dispensing skills. To be able to undertake a senior role on pharmacy linked initiatives and projects to develop and maintain digital maturity of UHMB Pharmacy services. 

 You will need to be able to prioritise workload efficiently and effectively, work accurately in a timely manner in the face of frequent interruptions.

You must be a qualified (GPhC registered) Pharmacy Technician with Accredited Checking Qualification, be competent,  able to prioritise work and have the ability to implement change as well as manage and develop services.

Applicants will be committed to improving patient care and delivering a high quality pharmacy service.

Full training will be given to the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job

An excellent communicator on all levels the post holder will be required to engage with diverse stake holders and possess advanced database, data analysis, problem solving and data presentation skills. With rapid digital transformation high on the NHS agenda, adoption and implementation of new ways of working are key elements of this post and attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines essential.  

CMM system manager training will be provided, and advanced development of technical skills supported.  

This post provides the opportunity to learn and develop new skills. Candidates wishing to maintain competences for professional registration & CPD will be supported.  The successful applicant will be expected to complete CIPS qualification.

 The successful candidate will be a member of the Pharmacy Programme & Projects team and participate in weekend and out of hours working as necessary. They will be expected to maintain current clinical skills in final accuracy checking and medicines reconciliation.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Pharmacy technician qualification: Btec level3 in Pharmaceutical services (or equivalent) and/or NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Service skills or equivalent
  • BTEC level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent)
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Service skills or equivalent
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accredited checking qualification and registration with Northwest Framework (equiv to NVQ level 4)
Desirable criteria
  • ACT Mentor
  • GCP accreditation
  • Assessor Award
  • Medicines reconciliation training
  • GMP accreditation
  • IQA qualification
  • CIPS qualification in procurement and supply operations or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience of a hospital pharmacy including relevant specialist pharmacy setting e.g. Clinical trials, Oncology, Aseptics, Purchasing and contract management

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
