Job overview

We are looking for a Research Nurse to join our team working on Respiratory Studies

If this is you, we have an exciting opportunity to join our research delivery team as a research nurse. We are a diverse team and welcome applicants from a wide range of clinical backgrounds.

Our team supports a wide range of studies from observational studies through to phase 2 and 3 clinical trials. We also helped to deliver cutting edge novel therapies during the Covid pandemic.

The role will suit somebody who has some research experience and is interested in working with the respiratory research team.

This job is being offered as a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, however, job-sharing or flexible working could be considered for the right applicant(s). We would also welcome applications for this post as a secondment, provided that your current line-manager has agreed to facilitate this.

On successful appointment, there is a tailored induction and training program.

The role is mainly based at RLI but some cross bay working will be expected.

The post-holder will lead in the provision of a clinical study service.

Main duties of the job

  • Coordination of suitable studies.
  • Delivery of investigative medicines.
  • Working closely with the team to deliver the wider portfolio of studies.
  • You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies focused mainly on respiratory but may be required to assist with  other specialities 
  • Recruitment, education and monitoring of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate data including collection and management of tissue and/or samples.
  • Supporting a wide range of research clinics.
  • Processing lab samples.
  • Conducting assessments as per the study protocol.
  • Collecting physical assessments.
  • Supervising and supporting junior staff.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional degree in relevant speciality
  • Registered Nurse qualification
  • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification
  • Up to date GCP (Good Clinical Practice Training)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of working as a research nurse in the NHS or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience of developing and working within multi-disciplinary teams and cross organisational working
Desirable criteria
  • Management and/or leadership experience
  • Experience of implementing change
  • Experience of clinical trial set up from feasibility to archiving, including recruiting, co-ordinating and managing research and clinical trials across multiple specialties

Skills, abilty and knowledge

  • Excellent general NHS knowledge
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including the preparation of reports and making presentations
