Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic Qualified Mammographers to join our team. 

Trainee Mammographers welcome to apply - We will accept applications Diagnostic Radiographers looking to specialise in Mammography and are willing to complete the Pg Cert in Mammography.

Trainee Mammographers will be paid trainee salary:
Pay will be Annex U/21:

  • Year 1- 60% of the top of a Band 6
  • Year 2 - 65% of the top of a Band 6
  • Year 3 - 70% of the top of a Band 6
  • Year 4 - 75% of the top of a Band 6

Part time applicants would be considered.

Main duties of the job

Due to the current national guidance on Health Promotion within Breast Screening, this opportunity is open to female applicants only. This provision applies under the Equality Act 2010 (and an equality impact assessment has been completed).

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
 
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
 
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
 
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

We provide both a well-woman screening service (NHSBSP) and a busy symptomatic imaging service.  The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service invites around 117,000 women every three years for screening. The service has two mobile units, as well as three static sites at:

- Royal Lancaster Infirmary

- Westmorland General Hospital

- Furness General Hospital

- Mobile Screening Van which rotates around the Blackpool, Fleetwood, Preston, Lytham and Poulton le Fylde region.  

Successful candidates will travel across Lancashire and South Cumbria in close proximity of the scenic Lake District. 

We are well equipped with new GE Pristina and 3D Mammography sets, with stereotactic biopsy capabilities. 

Whilst the role would be based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, there would be a requirement to work across all screening sites to meet the need of the service. 

The role will also entail providing a symptomatic imaging service.

Candidates are very welcome to arrange a visit to our Breast Unit to discuss a potential move into Mammography.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiography or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Post Graduate Award in Mammography

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience as a Diagnostic Radiographer
  • NHS Breast Screening and Symptomatic experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of mentoring

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Confident with IT systems including PACS/RIS
Desirable criteria
  • UK Driving License
