We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, experienced physiotherapist to fulfil the role of Clinical Lead Physiotherapist within the Community Therapy and Rehabilitation Service. 

This is a permanent contract   Working alongside the existing Clinical Lead Physiotherapy  and Occupational Therapy posts, this role will include operational leadership and management responsibilities, to support the large community therapy team, the day-to-day running of the service and the operational requirements of supporting leadership in service transformation and improvements.

Other shared management responsibilities will include management of service waiting lists, team absence, annual leave, incident reports, risk assessments, and managing the e-roster.

The post will be based at Moor Lane Mills, Lancaster.  The post holder will manage a caseload of complex community patients and have links with other local hospital and community-based services working across primary, secondary, community and local authority, adult social care.  Experience of highly effective multi-disciplinary team working is an essential leadership requirement of this role.  

The post holder will support the training and development of therapy colleagues in the team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder, working alongside other Clinical Lead Therapy colleagues, will be responsible for managing the deployment and supervision of an integrated therapy team within a defined clinical area/geographical community. 

Responsibility for the clinical leadership and management of the day-to-day delivery of services, including supporting the development of the service, managing issues relating to HR, colleague absence, completing appraisals, probation reports, performance and compliance with Care Quality Commission Standards. 

 Working under the direction of the Clinical Team Leader and with colleagues and key stakeholders to ensure the delivery of a coordinated, multidisciplinary and multi-agency service. This includes planning, delivering, evaluating and development of the services for which they are responsible. 

Be responsible and accountable for providing therapy assessment and treatment to patients with diverse health needs, who may have complex and / or chronic conditions, in a variety of community settings. 

Monitoring and analysing performance data against agreed targets for the team. 

Be an effective team player, have the ability to use their initiative and communicate with empathy.

Embrace innovation and integrated working and be committed to following the best practice to ensure patient centred care. 

Have the ability to demonstrate a commitment to clinical leadership.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Health & Care Professions Council Registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
  • Honours Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate specialist courses/training to Masters module level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or Royal College of Occupational Therapists
  • Membership of a relevant Clinical Interest group

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to think quickly, assess clinical situations and take decisions upon that information
  • Must demonstrate a knowledge of team/group dynamics and understand the role of a Clinical Lead within a team
  • To have a knowledge of audit tools and experience of audit
  • To have knowledge of clinical standards in physiotherapy or occupational therapy
  • To have a clear understanding of the role of Clinical Lead Therapist in the approach of their professional duties in a team
  • Must be able to demonstrate a sound awareness of current NHS issues

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Comprehensive experience as an experienced therapist in areas of practice relevant to the team
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills in English in a variety of settings
  • Evidence of effective teamworking
  • Evidence of effective leadership or supervision
