An opportunity has arisen for a part time Healthcare Science Assistant post in the Biochemistry laboratory at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust
Main duties of the job
This is an interesting and challenging position which would ideally suit someone with previous Pathology laboratory experience who is able to work under pressure to extremely high standards.
Based in the Biochemistry section, you will be joining a busy team providing an essential service for patients in the North Lancashire and South Cumbria area on weekends.
The successful applicant will work Monday to Fridays 07:00 - 15:00 and one in three Sundays 08:45 - 16:45
An initial period of training will be required during routine daytime hours before commencing the evening shift hours once fully competent.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Essential criteria
- NVQ 3 in Pathology or equivalent experience
- 3 GCSEs or equivalent including English

- Experience of working in a Pathology laboratory or Pathology reception
