Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Care/Nurse Practitioner in Urgent Care to join our established team of General Practitioners and Advanced Practitioners working within the Kendal Urgent Treatment Centre.

We currently have a position available for an Advanced Care Practitioner working within the busy and challenging environment of an isolated urgent treatment centre. You must have a passion for delivering high quality care to the local urban and rural population. As well as providing care to the large number of tourists to the national park that may present.

You should be working as an autonomous practitioner in the assessment and treatment of patients with a range of health conditions. You will work alongside and be supported by the General Practitioners within the team.

We will also consider recruiting to a Trainee ACP position for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

  1. To act as an advanced autonomous practitioner you must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical practice and knowledge whilst participating in direct evidenced based patient care. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing professional and clinical support in the care of patients.
  2. You should possess advanced skills in undertaking health assessments; diagnosing, treating, prescribing, and discharging patients.
  3. As an Advanced Care/Nurse Practitioner you must provide expert care and treatment to patients with a wide range of health complaints. You will work to trust protocols and clinical guidelines. However, as an Advanced Care/Nurse Practitioner will also be able to make decisions outside these frameworks, where necessary based on best practice.
  4. You will provide support within the team and act as role model and learning resource to other health professionals. You will be encouraging and aim to develop a high standard of clinical skills and strive to improve patient outcomes.
  5. You should be willing to function in a variety of roles; health care provider, educator, researcher, clinical advocate and implementer of clinical governance.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

The UTC is an alternative to attending the Emergency Department (ED) for a range of minor injuries and minor illnesses. It is a walk-in service for patients whose condition is urgent enough that they cannot wait for the next GP appointment (usually within 48 hours), but who do not need emergency treatment at the Emergency Department (ED). People are usually seen, treated and discharged on the same day.

The UTC aims to treat minor illness and minor injury in adults and children of any age.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
