Job overview

Would you like to join a team of nurses who are supported by a multidisciplinary team ensuring patients are discharged safely back to the community following orthopaedic surgery?

At Westmorland General Hospital we have a dedicated Inpatient Surgical Unit which comprises elective surgery (Ward 7) and rehabilitation following trauma surgery (Ward 6).

An opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to work on Ward 7 in a fixed term contract has become available to work alongside our skilled and dedicated Team at Westmorland General Hospital. The Unit specialises mainly in Total Hip and Knee Replacement surgery, Breast surgery and Urology. This will involve a variety of shifts to work both, days and nights 7 days a week. There may be occasions where you are required to work on the rehabilitation ward where full support will be given.

Main duties of the job

We expect staff to work together as a team to achieve the best outcomes; you will be encouraged to work with your manager to identify an individual competency pack which will be relevant to the area in which you intend to work and to meet your learning needs.

Newly qualified Band 5 nurses are welcomed to apply; you can work towards Band 5 competencies & develop extended roles. Full support for Preceptorship will be given.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
