Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for  highly motivated Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our friendly, patient-focussed team at  Kendal Urgent Treatment Centre on a part time basis with a new shift pattern.  We are seeking enthusiastic team players with excellent communication skills to help us deliver safe, effective patient care to patients who attend our unit.

Whilst the Unit offers a walk-in service for a wide range of minor injuries and illnesses, patients also present with complaints more appropriate to an Emergency Department.  Experience of Urgent &/or Emergency nursing will be beneficial but training and development will be available to support the skills and knowledge required within this role.

The Urgent Treatment Centre is based in Kendal , the gateway to the Lake District.  The department serves the population of South Cumbria and North Lancashire, as well a transient tourist population visiting the nearby National Park and in the last year saw over 29,000 patients.

The unit is open from 8am to 11pm, 365 days of the year, with patients able to book in until 10pm.  Shifts are within this period of time and include weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

We are committed to delivering high quality, compassionate, effective and efficient care.  We are looking for nurses who share this ethos and take great pride in being part of a professional, hardworking and friendly team dedicated to ensuring the highest possible standard is delivered within the department.

Please see attached job description and person specification which provides more detail about the essential and desirable skills and experience required for the role.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
