An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Radiology department at the Cumberland Infirmary as an Apprentice Diagnostic Radiographer

The Apprentice Diagnostic Radiographer post is a three year integrated degree apprenticeship. Candidates will be expected to attend university throughout the 3 years as well as carry out clinical work as part of their training. 

The successful applicant will be offered the post subject to being accepted onto the relevant University Degree Apprenticeship course.

Upon successful completion of the course applicants will be a qualified Diagnostic Radiographer and able to apply for HCPC registration. 

Main duties of the job

This is a training post and the candidate will be required to attend university whilst undertaking practical work . 

 The main duties of the job include:

  • Within your scope of practice support the delivery of a Radiology service as a practising member of the multi-disciplinary team, in accordance with the standards of conduct, performance and ethics as set down by the Health Professions Council.
  • Work as a member of the team that provides radiography services 
  • Make the care and well being of patients and their carer or relative the emphasis of your daily duties, ensuring the safety, care and welfare of each patient throughout their examination, understanding and complying with all departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Use negotiation and persuasion to achieve desired examinations, adapting technique when required; reassure patients prior to examinations, explain imaging procedures to gain understanding and cooperation and achieve the desired results. 

Applicants will need to clearly evidence how you meet the job requirements and why you want to be come a radiographer. This role does require a high level of commitment and you should demonstrate how you will achieve this in your application. 

Salary:  AFC Band 5 Annex 21 

You will not be disadvantaged if your current salary exceeds these thresholds (for internal staff).

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or functional skills in level 2 in both obtained prior to application
