37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday

Based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

We are looking to appoint a high calibre, enthusiastic and talented individual to the post of Pathology Quality Manager. The post holder will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, but will work across both of our hospitals with regular (approximately weekly) travel to West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.

You will have a biomedical science degree or equivalent and a further relevant postgraduate diploma or equivalent. Ideally you will also have a quality management qualification.

We are looking for someone with extensive knowledge and experience of the accreditation and regulatory requirements of a pathology service. You will therefore have a working knowledge of the laboratories and the application of the various accreditation/regulatory standards within each laboratory function.

Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills are required with the ability to communicate clearly to groups of people and individuals of all levels. The ability to influence and motivate people will be required.

A working knowledge of the QPulse system will be advantageous. Experience in training and coaching, and well developed IT skills will be essential.

Working in collaboration with the senior management teams, the post holder will develop, implement and maintain systems to assure quality within pathology at North Cumbria

The post holder will be responsible for assuring the quality of all areas of clinical practice against the current standards. This will include delivery and oversight of quality improvement programmes.

The post holder will manage risk within the department.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Managing  and developing the Pathology Quality Management System  for  Cell Sciences, Blood Sciences , Infection Sciences and Point of Care Testing
  • Managing the UKAS accreditation process for all disciplines within Pathology
  • Monitoring compliance with regulatory licensing and accrediting bodies including MHRA, HTA and HSE
  • Chairing the Pathology Safety an Quality meeting and attending departmental Safety and Quality meetings
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to all pathology staff
