Improvement Facilitator

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

The Improvement Facilitator reports to the Trust’s Senior Service Improvement Specialists.  The post holder will have a track record of successfully utilising lean/continuous improvement methodologies to deliver measurable improvements to clinical services and processes within an NHS Trust.

The purpose of the role is to provide support to the Trust’s improvement programme through the application of lean/continuous improvement methodologies, coaching and training.  In doing so, the post holder will support the development of our teams and their ability to problem solve, utilising a system of tools, guided by our Trust values and behaviours.

Working in the context of clinical and organisational team’s time constraints, the Improvement Facilitator will be expected to develop professional relationships that support a strong focus on improvement and the behavioural growth needed to deliver our strategic objectives.

This will be accomplished through the delivery of Rapid Process Improvement Workshops (RPIW), Lean and other improvement methodologies, ongoing training, mentorship and coaching of individuals at all levels on continuous improvement methods and theory to ensure delivery and sustainability.

Main duties of the job

  • Work on defined projects and programmes using service improvement tools and techniques to facilitate the delivery of improvements across Trust Collaboratives, working with senior managers and ward managers, supporting change management, and workforce & service redesign
  • Provide one-off or ongoing facilitation for dedicated improvement sessions with senior managers, undertaking operational analysis to understand challenges within the operational areas and therefore identify risks and support mitigation
  • Become directly involved as an active member of a project or programme board within an operational area to support improvement, motivating and encouraging collaborative working to achieve shared goals, which may involve giving and receiving highly complex, sensitive and contentious information.
  • Work with staff at all levels in the organisation so will be required to engage with, facilitate and motivate multidisciplinary teams

As an organisation we are serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and are very much focused on being an inclusive and compassionate place to work.

Across the North East and North Cumbria we are working together to deliver our ambition to be the greenest region in England by 2030. All staff are expected to support sustainability.
