We are excited to offer the opportunity for Triage Nurse assistant  to join the emergency department in Furness General Hospital.

This is a permanent role being offered within our area and will be covering a 24-hour period- shift pattern. (including nights and weekends)

Main duties of the job

  • Work in support of and under the direction of a Registered 
    Nurse (RN), providing nursing care and assistance to patients 
    within defined parameters specified by the Registered Nurse.
  • Record patient information.
  • Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient 
    records.
  • To be able to undertake clinical skills such as venepuncture, 
    ECGs and cannulation are essential skills of the role.
  • Assist the RN’s in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, demonstrating an ability to prioritise such care.
  • Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care. 
  • Determine the comfort of patients by talking and listening to them and building up a rapport.
  • Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented appropriately.
  • Recognise changes in patient condition and report to a RN.
  • Ensure patient dignity and individual patient needs are always met.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general education- basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 2 in care related area
  • Previous experience of working with patients in a care environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative or with minimal supervision.
Desirable criteria
  • Completed Trust Support Worker Programme
  • venepuncture and cannulation.
  • ECG training
