We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

Job overview

An  opportunity has arisen for a quality administration assistant to join the Biochemistry team at Furness General Hospital.

The post holder will provide administrative support to help deliver this essential clinical service for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

You will work primarily within the Biochemistry laboratory area, and must be prepared to comply with all health and safety requirements of this environment.

It is essential that you have excellent communication skills and can work well in a team.

Computer and keyboard skills, and experience of using information technology systems are essential. Previous experience of using quality management systems would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

The duties of the post are varied, but include working closely with the Biochemistry teams across the Trust to administrate the departmental quality management system, Q Pulse,  checking invoices for specialist tests referred to other laboratories and helping to manage local consumable stocks.

This is an interesting and challenging position within a UKAS accredited Blood Science laboratory. The Blood Science laboratories across the Trust work closely together to provide an efficient, high quality service utilising common analytical platforms and IT systems provided through a managed service contract with Beckman Coulter UK.

The department is committed to staff training, continuous development and quality improvement and the successful candidate must be equally committed to these principles.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
