We are inviting applications from a suitably experienced doctor seeking a career development opportunity as a Speciality Doctor in Emergency Medicine.

The post is based at Furness General Hospital and represents a career development opportunity for a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to develop Emergency Medicine whilst working with the current team to develop integrated services as part of the Better Care Together Project.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Doctor working in the Emergency Department you will be expected to deliver high quality emergency care and to be responsible, along with Emergency Department (ED) Senior colleagues, for the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients attending the ED. You will supervise the appropriate referral of patients Non-ED specialist teams (within the Trust or tertiary referral where necessary) General Practice and other community–based services.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, North Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree programme. Interview expenses will be paid for appoint of entry into the UK.

All applicants must hold full GMC with a licence to practice.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
