Job overview

An exciting opportunity has a risen for a full time,  dynamic patient focused, Ward Manager, on Ward 2 Trauma and Orthopaedics and the  Elective Orthopaedic Unit.  

We are seeking a caring, compassionate, experienced Registered Nurse for the Position of Ward Manager for Ward 2 and The Elective Orthopaedic Unit, - Trauma and Orthopaedics at Furness General Hospital.

The position requires an experienced Registered Nurse who is able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills, is able to delegate effectively, whilst working efficiently as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

There are clear and well embedded care pathways for both Elective and Trauma patients admitted to the speciality and a Multi-disciplinary team who are well versed in these care pathways. 

As Ward Manager you will develop and lead the Trauma and Orthopaedic nursing teams, whilst developing new innovative ways to improve patient care.

You will be reliable, flexible, motivated, have excellent clinical and managerial skills, with a commitment to ongoing learning and development.   You will be committed to delivering high quality care and be willing and open to embracing positive change and transformation, meeting the demands of the patients we serve.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

As a ward leader you will develop  and lead the Trauma and Orthopaedic and Elective Orthopaedic teams, who take pride in their work and the challenges,  whilst developing new innovative ways to improve patient care and take the ward forward and flourish.

We are seeking a caring, compassionate experienced Registered Nurse who can demonstrate excellent leadership skills, can delegate effectively, and work effectively and efficiently as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be expected to work predominately Monday to Friday in an 80-20% supervisory capacity. They will have 24 hour responsibility with support from  dedicated  Ward team and the Matron for Surgery. 

You will be reliable, flexible, motivated, have excellent clinical and managerial skills, a commitment to ongoing learning and development, a commitment to delivering high quality care and be willing and open to embracing positive change and transformation, meeting the demands of the community we serve.

The post holder will be expected to work predominately Monday to Friday in an 80-20% supervisory capacity. They will have 24-hour responsibility with support of a dedicated ward team.  The Matron for Trauma and Orthopaedics will work closely with the successful candidate providing development and support.  

 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

We are looking at the successful candidate to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and relevant experience required to lead and manage a busy Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward and Elective Orthopaedic Unit, with the  support  of  strong and committed multi-disciplinary teams across both areas.

Person specification

Registered Nurse

Essential criteria
  • UK NMC Registration - 1st level registered nurse
  • Recent post basic clinical qualification in relevant clinical area.
  • Mentoring / assessing qualification or Teaching qualification eg City & Guilds, Professional Trainers Certificate.
Desirable criteria
  • Recent leadership development or willingness to work towards a leadership qualification.

Experience at B6 Level

Essential criteria
  • 2 years experience.
