Registered Nurse Pre-Assessment

Band 5

Job overview

These exciting fixed term posts are a great opportunity for any Registered Nurses who want to develop their knowledge and skills and become part of the expanding Pre-Assessment Team. We offer flexible working hours across two locations (Hayle and Truro) and are in the process of designing an electronic system that will hopefully support remote working in the future.

We have our own Practice Educator within the department who will support you to learn the skills and a multidisciplinary team who are dedicated to supporting you to become an effective Pre-Assessment Nurse.  These posts have been created as part of the Elective Recovery Plan to help us provide greater capacity to Pre-Assess more patients so that they can proceed on their elective pathway to safe surgery. There are a number of posts available and part time hours from 20 hours a week to full time hours can be supported.

Main duties of the job

The main duty of these posts is to conduct pre-assessments by telephone or video. This will include  preparing the patient for what to expect; delivering health promotion to them, along with medication plans specifically for anticoagulants, biologics and diabetes.  You will need to decide if an anaesthetic review is required  and make decisions about tests to arrange and then follow up. Once competent, nurses work autonomously .

Triage of referrals to the department into Pre-Op assessment not required, telephone or video assessment.

Follow up of results and autonomous discharge of patients that are fit to proceed to surgery with no further intervention.
