Job overview

An exciting opportunity now exists for an  Emergency Nurse Practitioner position within the Emergency Department. Applications are invited from registered nurses or paramedics who hold a minor injuries and illness qualification, and who are confident in the autonomous management of patients who have sustained a minor injury or illness . 

This role is full time role 37.5 hours per week, frequently working a 14:00 - 02:00 shift. 

Main duties of the job

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has recently redesigned its pathway for minor injuries in Cornwall.  During the day shift the applicant will be responsible for the safe and effective redirection of minor injuries and illnesses off site to other minor injury units or simple see and treat if required. They will support the department by performing triage, and support in the minors/urgent treatment area of the department. The department will accept and care for patients presenting with minor injuries outside daytime working hours.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC / HCPC Registration
  • Educated to degree level
  • Management of minor illness and minor injuries in Urgent and Emergency Care modules.
Desirable criteria
  • University qualification in speciality
  • Teaching/ Assessment/ Mentoring qualification
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or commitment to undertake.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant nursing/practitioner experience within Acute & Emergency Medicine
  • ALS/PLS/ILS qualified
Desirable criteria
  • Recent experience in acute setting
  • Audit or research experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills
  • Skills in cannulation and venepuncture and drug administration
Desirable criteria
  • Previous use of PAS, Oceano, Maxim's
