Job overview

Our Integrated Safeguarding Team continually strive to ensure that all Trust staff know their safeguarding roles and responsibilities and are equipped to improve services and outcomes for children and young people.

As a member of the Children’s Safeguarding Team, within the Integrated Safeguarding Team, you will provide advice and support across the Trusts, predominately in relation to paediatric and children services, and be actively involved in safeguarding supervision and education. Working in partnership with other health service providers and agencies, both statutory and voluntary, to promote children’s rights and keep them safe from harm.

The successful candidate will have experience and confidence of multi-disciplinary / agency working within the safeguarding children arena, be a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and ambitious nurse with a passion and aptitude for safeguarding.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post has been developed to support the Integrated RCHT/CFT Safeguarding Team and Named Nurse for Safeguarding to support all activities necessary to ensure that the children’s service and wider organisation meets its responsibilities to safeguard and protect babies, children and young people.

Act as a source of expertise to patients and staff, in terms of support, supervision, information, signposting and advice. Promoting a high level of judgment, discretion and decision making in an acute Trust environment, including the community setting

To work collaboratively with multi-agency, multi-disciplinary teams and networks to support a whole systems approach to care delivery.

Attendance and contribution to relevant safeguarding meetings both internal and external where Trust representation is required.

Ensure effective communication and appropriate information sharing between children services, services throughout the Trust, primary care and social care in relation to safeguarding children’s arrangements.

To maintain up to date records and support with audit, collating and analysing data

To support and facilitate in the delivery of safeguarding supervision sessions

 Work alongside the wider Integrated Safeguarding team to contribute to and deliver safeguarding training, ensuring learning is embedded into practice.

This post will require travelling to other RCHT sites and other services providers

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience and proven ability of dealing with distressed, upset patients or staff members. Experience and proven success in discussing sensitive issues with people. Very significant experience of Adult and/or Child Safeguarding processes and procedures.

  • Experience of analysing problems and providing solutions/plans in the field of child abuse. Experience of using and managing a data base and data analysis. Experience of involvement in developing a service or process in the field of child abuse. Experience of working with senior clinicians/service providers and challenging them appropriately on behalf of the patient/service user. Experience of advocacy, conciliation, mediation and use of analytical skills.
