Inpatient Booker / Medical Secretary

Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the pain service administration team to supplement and support the existing team to provide excellent patient care.
We are looking for a dynamic, well-organised and proactive Medical Secretary and Inpatient Booking Co-ordinator to join our small team, ensuring that the duties are carried out in line with Trust Policy, in full co-operation with the pain department and ACCT care group.
The post holder will be responsible for actioning all additions, removals, amendments and validation of the Trust’s waiting lists for the pain department, including booking inpatient procedures.
Providing cover for colleagues in a similar role.
Providing a comprehensive secretarial and personal assistant support to pain clinicians.

Main duties of the job
Key areas of responsibility:
- Liaising with consultants and secretaries regarding dates of treatment for patients.
- Arrange patient admissions using hospital systems, including pre-operative assessment appointments.
- Booking outpatient appointments.
- Same day cancellations – ensuring patients are re-booked within 28 days of cancellations or within RTT breach date (whichever is sooner)
- Ensuring Pathway ID’s are attached to all inpatient episodes.
- Transcribing Letters
- Answering the phones

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English
- RSA 2/3 in medical audio typing/equivalent experience.
- BEA PAS Module
- PAS Outpatient Modules
- Computer qualifications/experience (Word, Excel, email, internet)
Desirable criteria
- AMSPAR Qualification
- NVQ in administration or ECDL or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- 2 years NHS or healthcare experience.
- Experienced in electronic patient record systems, (Maxims, PAS)
- Experienced minute taker
- Understanding and experience of NHS Targets RTT
- Computer experience (word, Excel, Email and Internet)
Desirable criteria
- Experienced using Galaxy
- Experienced using Dragon
