Job overview

We are looking to recruit a motivated, dynamic Band 7 leader who can bring enthusiasm and energy to the Senior Leadership team within our busy Pre-Assessment Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske and partner site ST Michaels Hospital.  The successful candidate will be pivotal in the delivery of professional quality standards led nationally and managing and implementation of innovative change.

The post holder will provide leadership across our Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic areas which is integral in supporting the patients' surgical journey. This is a highly diverse post that provides the applicant with an opportunity to dynamically support all patient groups in the lead up to their surgery, whilst also supporting and working alongside a range of other healthcare professionals / specialists to deliver high quality care.

Main duties of the job

As the Band 7 you will be responsible for leading the future development and co-ordination of both the Pre-Assessment Unit within the new digital platform and leading, managing and supporting the staff within the department to perform the highest quality of patient assessment and ensure the service is operationally efficient against national and local standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This will include coordinating the effective use of clinical time, capacity, and service needs, as well as attending meetings and managing daily departmental issues. You will also work very closely with our admin and clinical teams, the role oversees, advises, and guides in the care giving processes for the area, writing standard operating practice documents to support the required set protocols.

You will embrace the opportunity to innovate by promoting the continuous development in clinical practice and the delivery of patient care, engaging in GIRFT Quality improvement work, and encouraging innovation and any appropriate change in service delivery.

You will provide a working environment which nurtures a positive supportive space for staff development in line with their health and wellbeing needs.

You will gain extensive experience in leading on Governance aspects within the clinical settings, organising and leading the team in audits, risk assessments and completion of investigations ensuring outcomes are actioned and disseminated as ongoing learning for the team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional/clinical qualification: Registered Nurse on appropriate part of the NMC Register
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience.
  • Possession of relevant mentorship certification.
Desirable criteria
  • Requirement to complete the Trust Managers Passport – within the first year in post if not already completed.
  • Master’s Level 7 qualification / willingness to obtain.

Experience / Skills

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience including significant experience within relevant speciality at Band 6 or equivalent.
  • Evidence of having developed team working skills and implemented team working practices
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of experience within POA.
