Staff Nurse Interventional Radiology/ Vascular Access

Band 5

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, dynamic, multidisciplinary Interventional Radiology and Vascular Access Team. This is a permanent full time post . We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated nurse willing to advance their career and take on new challenges in this highly specialised aspect of radiology.

The Interventional Radiology (IR) service and Vascular Access teams are based within the Newlyn Unit, which houses state of the art equipment placing the service at the forefront of IR delivery in the South West, and the nurse-led vascular access and paracentesis service involves placement of intravenous devices for medium to long term therapy (midlines and PICC lines) and placement of abdominal drains at the bedside.

Main duties of the job

To work with the IR and Vascular Access Lead Nurse and Radiology Team Leaders to ensure the efficient and cost effective delivery of the Interventional radiology, Vascular Access and Paracentesis service.
To work as part of a team providing a 24 hour, 7 day service for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, including a commitment to the ‘on-call’ service.
To deputise for the senior nurse staff in their absence or when required as deemed appropriate by the IR and Vascular Access Lead
To work closely with the Clinical Imaging multidisciplinary team to deliver a high quality service.
To provide clinical nursing expertise to the radiology department to ensure the highest possible standard of compassionate patient centred care.
To comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation (IRR 99), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulation (IR(ME)R 2000) and the Trust Radiation Safety Policy.

Working for our organisation

Training will be given in all aspects of interventional radiology and vascular access as well as the management and leadership skills required to perform the role. This will be achieved through a structured and documented program of self-directed learning and clinical competency based assessment.

Candidates should have a minimum of one years post registration experience in the acute setting.

Experience of radiology/ theatre nursing and the placement of vascular access devices would be an advantage but not essential.

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week, covering 7 days a week. The interventional radiology team delivers an emergency weekend and out of hours service.

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target.  All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.
