Applications are invited for the post(s) of Clinical Fellow(s) in  Critical Care

The Trust provides acute medical and surgical services to a population of around 500000, which more than doubles during the busy holiday periods. 

An exciting opportunity for post-foundation training level applicants wishing to pursue careers in anaesthesia / perioperative medicine and/or intensive care medicine and they will provide individuals with a considerable amount of relevant clinical and non-clinical experience to support subsequent applications to these specialities.  

These posts offer an opportunity to be part of our Critical Care unit in Cornwall.  There are roles suited to those interested in developing careers in both anaesthetics  / ITU.

Within these posts there will be protected time to develop individual interests with opportunities in world class research, meaningful quality improvement work and clinical innovation.

Main duties of the job

  • Admit / receive patients and take handover from clinical teams 
  • Review and prescribe appropriate admission medications.
  • Attend / conduct ward rounds as timetabled
  • Undertake clinical review and clinical interventions as appropriate.
  • Be able to recognise and offer immediate clinical intervention for the deteriorating patient in line with required clinical competencies and ALS protocols.
  • Present patients for senior review and complete discharge paperwork as necessary and subsequent verbal handover to parent surgical team
  • Attend teaching, including Thursday critical care junior doctor teaching.

Person specification

Qualification / Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • GMC Registration with a License to Practice
  • MB BS (or equivalent medical qualification)
  • Eligible to work at Core Level
Desirable criteria
  • Formal teaching courses / qualifications

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable previous NHS experience or equivalent.
  • ALS Provider or equivalent
  • Has achieved appropriate level of Foundation competencies.
  • Experienced in clinical audit and clinical governance
Desirable criteria
  • Previous post-graduate experience in ICM, Enhanced perioperative care or Anaesthesia
