Job overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for tracking early stages of patient pathways and supporting some less complex meetings. This involves identifying, collecting and electronically entering data with an overall view to improve patient access times and the delivery of national waiting times and mandated clinical datasets.

The Multidisciplinary Coordinator team are required to work closely with the Cancer Multi–disciplinary teams (MDT) and Cancer Nurse Specialists (CNS) to ensure timely patient care, efficient and well prepared meetings, and support the team in collecting and evidencing good working practice in line with national Cancer Standards and National Clinical Audits.

Main duties of the job

  • Take and process telephone calls and queries in an appropriate manner. Telephone calls will involve contact with health professionals that may involve the provision of non-clinical advice.
  • Maintain an accurate filing system (electronic and manual) to ensure they work effectively and efficiently.
  • Co-ordinate patient entries to the MDT meetings, updating clinical records for patients and circulation of agendas within set guidelines.
  • Responsible for providing and transferring accurate information from numerous hospital systems onto the Cancer Register.
  • Responsible to reviewing and updating patients on the daily Cancer PTL (tracking list) and ensuring data used for tracking is accurate and relevant.
  • Complete relevant data on the Cancer register for mandated datasets such as COSD (Cancer Outcomes Services dataset) within timescales agreed.
  • Support Clinical and wider Cancer Services Team with Audits and the National Cancer Peer review standards.
  • Provide cover for other members of staff as directed by the Management team.
  • Sort, distribute and prioritise internal/external post, including communication by fax and e-mail.
  • General correspondence, some correspondence may be of a distressing nature.
  • To be conversant with the cancer patient pathway and accessing systems to retrieve data and information.
