RCHT imaging is looking for motivated and dynamic Radiographers wishing to develop their skills and gain experience in Computed Tomography (CT). It is essential to have good communication skills and a highly developed sense of patient care to join our friendly and progressive team.

The CT department currently has 5 CT scanners across Royal Cornwall Hospital, Bodmin CDC and West Cornwall Hospital where this role will be based.

The Diagnostic Imaging department has recently achieved accreditation through the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme (ISAS) and has been inspected and rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Outstanding’.

This successful applicants will be required to work at  West Cornwall Hospital with initial training and some rotation through the Treliske, Truro CT department.

The department currently takes student radiographers from Exeter and Plymouth Universities and is a training site for Radiologists. We have Assistant Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners including Reporting Radiographers, and Consultant Radiographers in post and are committed to developing the knowledge and skills of our workforce.

We actively support and encourage Radiographers in their career development and are committed to providing increased opportunities to widen specialist skills, extend roles and deliver advanced practice.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To work with the Team Leaders and Advanced / Specialist Practitioner Radiographers to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of the service.

To work as part of a team providing a 7 day and out of hours CT service which may include working shifts in Trauma, Acute and General (TAG) X-ray.

To work with the Team Leader and Advanced / Specialist Practitioner Radiographers to continually improve the radiography service.

Justify radiology referrals (within scope of practice) using referral criteria which falls within the Royal College of Radiologists Guidelines and the Clinical Imaging Protocol Manual.

To comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation (IRR 17), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulation (IR(ME)R 17), the Trust Radiation Safety Policy and MHRA Safety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment in Clinical Use and the MRI Departments.
 Liaise closely with Consultant Radiologists and colleagues within clinical multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive optimum care.

To perform a wide range of examinations within Clinical Imaging

To maintain a high level of clinical and technical expertise to ensure the safe operation of all equipment.

To perform a wide range of radiographic examinations within clinical imaging as well as in theatres, on wards and in the emergency department

 To undertake CT imaging and participate in the wider service i.e. MRI and Trauma, Acute and General x-ray as required

To administer drugs and intravenous contrast agents in line with Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and local protocols.

To undertake all clinical imaging examinations in a professional manner ensuring a high standard of clinical care.

To recognise anatomy and pathology (within scope of practice) to enable optimisation of imaging and to liaise with Consultant Radiologists to arrange further images/scan sequences when required.

To carry out all clinical imaging examinations to the highest standard adhering to IRR17, IR(ME)R 17.

To be responsible for the safe use of Radiation within the Clinical Imaging Department as well as other areas including wards, operating theatres and the Accident and Emergency Department, and to ensure that the Local Rules are observed at all times.

To provide the highest possible standard of care to patients and their carers.

To be reflective, flexible and autonomous in thinking and outlook.

 To take an active part in Health and Safety and Clinical Governance, working in partnership with the Governance Lead in carrying out risk assessments and audits.

 To observe all Clinical Imaging Protocols and Procedures

To observe Trust Policy on the reporting of incidents.

To produce and implement action plans as a result of incidents.

 To be responsible for the care of all Clinical Imaging equipment and accessories including maintaining a high level of cleanliness.

To report all equipment faults to the equipment manufacturer or maintenance contract provider and the Team Leader or Advanced Practitioners, without delay.

 To ensure that any operational difficulties are reported to the Team Leader immediately.
 To work effectively under pressure.
