We are pleased to invite applications for a Consultant in Orthodontics for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), working across North Wales. This is a great opportunity for an individual who would be interested in clinical sessions within specialist practice, should applicants wish to undertake work in both primary and secondary care.
This post is for 9.5 sessions although applications for part time or job sharing will be considered.
This post is for a fixed term period.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will collaborate with enthusiastic and supportive colleagues across the region to enhance the comprehensive Consultant service for North Wales. The post involves the treatment of severe and complex malocclusions to the highest standard. There is an emphasis on multi-disciplinary management including orthognathic surgery and collaboration with restorative dentistry. There are opportunities to provide local orthodontic care as part of the Regional Cleft Lip and Palate Network. We have strong academic, teaching and training links with Liverpool Dental Hospital, Bangor and Edge Hill Universities, along with quarterly Mersey, Cheshire & North Wales regional audit and consultant group meetings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide Orthodontic Services within the outpatient departments as part of a network of orthodontic services across North Wales.
There are Consultant led Departments in each of the three main hospitals, namely Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Wrexham Maelor Hospital. There are orthodontic specialist services in primary care across North Wales in the Gwynedd, Conwy, Flintshire and Wrexham areas as well as a cohort of DwSIs in Orthodontics both in the GDS and CDS. The regional orthodontic practitioners are fully involved with the Local Orthodontic Committee who’s Chair is a member of the North Wales & Powys’s Orthodontic Managed Clinical Network.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GDC Registration
- Specialist Membership in Orthodontics or equivalent
- Be on the GDC Specialist Register in Orthodontics
Desirable criteria
- Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Orthodontics, or equivalent before commencing the post
- Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CSST in Orthodontics
- Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery or equivalent
- MSc or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum two year training in a fixed term training appointment (Post-CCST/FTTA) in Orthodontics or within six months of completion of training which follows on from the pre-CCST training period of 3 years or equivalent
- Commitment to continued professional development through lifelong learning.
Desirable criteria
- Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum three year training programme in Orthodontics
- Experience in the management of craniofacial anomalies, including CLP
- Demonstration of CPD log book.
ABILITY
Essential criteria
- Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
- Counselling and communication skills
- Up-to-date with current practices in Orthodontics
Desirable criteria
- Computing skills
AUDIT
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical/dental practice. Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance

RESEARCH

- Ability to appraise scientific literature critically

- Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication in refereed journals
