Job overview
Due to service development and reconfiguration a post has become available in the North Wales Central Community Paediatric Service. Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Community Child Health within Conwy and Denbighshire, to assist in providing specialist child health services across Conwy and Denbighshire. The successful candidate will join a team of 3 other Community and 8 Acute Consultant General Paediatricians and 7 Consultant Neonatologists to provide integrated and comprehensive child health services across the Conwy and Denbighshire areas of North Wales.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work with the other community paediatricians to develop integrated Child Health Services in the Health Board. The post is mainly clinical, with a teaching/supervision component. Proposed areas of clinical responsibility for the team are outlined below and subject to discussion with the successful candidate and depending on expertise. The post holder will share the duties below with the existing Consultants and their teams, each leading on agreed aspects of the work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will have responsibility for community paediatric services within Denbighshire and some service provision to Conwy as well. The new post holder will work with a team of community paediatricians to provide this population based paediatric service.
The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in the clinical governance programme of the department, providing support to undergraduate and postgraduates as necessary.
The Consultant Paediatrician will ensure maintenance of relevant skills through continuing professional development with an annual appraisal.
The Consultant Paediatrician will provide clinical supervision for other community paediatricians and clinical and educational supervision for specialist paediatric trainees.
The Consultant Paediatrician will participate in the relevant children’s management meetings for the service.

Qualifications and experience
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the GMC
- On the Specialist Register or within 6 months of their expected date of CCT
- CCT in Paediatrics or equivalent / CESR-CP (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- 2 years General Professional Training in paediatrics.
- 5 years Higher Specialist Training, including experience in relevant subspecialty (e.g. paediatric neurology)
- At least level 3 child protection training
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training
- Experience, interest and enthusiasm in teaching medical students and junior medical staff.
Desirable criteria
- Minimum 2 years experience in Community Paediatrics
- Experience in other areas relevant to child health e.g. child mental health, public health, paediatric neurology, childhood epilepsy or palliative care
- Specialist experience in one or more particular areas of practice to take a lead role in that area
- MSc in medical education Clinical/educational supervision experience

Essential criteria
- Good communication skills
- Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to lead a community paediatric team
Desirable criteria
- Good Computing skills
