Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners for a Teaching post, jointly supervised by the Clinical Decision Unit at the Friarage Hospital and the undergraduate department within South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Prior experience of working and teaching within the NHS is essential for this post.
Close collaboration and flexible working between the two directorates is integral to the appointment, to balance clinical and teaching commitments. Successful candidates must be fully registered medical practitioners who have successfully completed Foundation Programme or have equivalent training. The post is for 12 months, and salary scale is the Locally Employed Doctors contract (2016). Those wishing to apply who are working at a higher grade than MT03 CT 1/ 2 are welcome. Salary can be matched when provided with evidence of current pay slip one month prior to commencement of the post
Main duties of the job
This post supports the establishment of an undergraduate training hub for students from regional medical schools. The post holder will need to engage with a wide range of specialities as we consolidate and build a teaching programme for students from Hull York Medical School (HYMS) and Newcastle University as well as support students from other medical schools on clinical placements. The post provides a unique opportunity to work with senior educators to establish a new curriculum at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Whilst the main teaching commitments will be at the Friarage Hospital, the post also provides wide ranging opportunities to be actively involved in the delivery of education at the James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) site. In addition, there will be scope for gaining clinical experience in acute medicine in the Clinical Decisions Unit at the Friarage Hospital, however, this will vary according in line with the needs of the education programme.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GMC registration with licence to practice
- Completion of foundation competencies
- Registered Medical Degree (MB BS or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- BSc or other intercalated degree
- ALS
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Clear logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach
- Experience of working in the NHS (min. 12 months at start of post)
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing acutely unwell patients and chronic medical conditions
Teaching Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of teaching experience of a UK medical school curriculum
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualifications
- Experience with simulation based teaching
- HYMS Undergraduate Curriculum knowledge
- Evidence of exposure to different groups/teaching methods
