Job overview

Ruston Ward is a 17 bedded in-patient facility providing specialist rehabilitation for patients who have suffered a stroke or have neurological problems. The Ward also receives patients for general medical care / rehabilitation from across the Trust. 

We are looking to recruit flexible, motivated and innovative individuals. Applicants will need to be highly focused and demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will be confident and competent to lead a team and you will possess a portfolio of personal development which reflects your skills and abilities as a nurse, as well as those needed to lead teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Senior Sister in the management and leadership of the Ward, acting as a role model of clinical practice and practice development. They will be expected to carry out audits where necessary and support the Senior Sister in implementing and evaluating practice initiatives. They will be expected to provide leadership to junior staff in order to support the team in ensuring high standards of patient care is delivered and maintained.

As an experienced nurse, the job holder will co-ordinate activities on the ward/department ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/department.  He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

The job holder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

The post holder will work in partnership with the Ward / Department Sister and the team to ensure that high standards of nursing care are provided at all times. This includes ensuring that standards of hospital cleanliness are maintained on their ward/department and are met at all times.
